a Kona coffee farmer in space

Ellison Onizuka grew up as a Kona coffee farmers son in our village, before becoming a pilot first for the Air Force and then for NASA. He flew to space and back as an astronaut and made everybody in Hawaii and especially in Kealakekua very, very proud. On January 28, 1986 he perished with his crew on his second space trip in the ill fated Challenger shuttle.
